There’s something about fall that makes us take a fresh look at things. The summer rush is over, the leaves are starting to fall, and somehow there’s a little more time to think about what comes next.
If buying or selling a home or cottage is on your mind, here are three reasons fall might be a pretty good time to do it.
1. You can finally see the forest for the trees!
For Sellers: As the leaves come down, you can see the things that need a little tidying or touching up—things that may have been hidden all summer. And the weather is cool and bug-free enough to actually get the work done!
For Buyers: The roads are a little less busy and, as the leaves fall, you can see the property itself more clearly. Your home inspector will appreciate it too. Foundations, roofs and other exterior areas are easier to see—and nobody has to climb into an attic sauna!
2. Timing is everything.
For Sellers: The hectic summer schedule has eased off. Your company has gone home, the cottage is quieter, and you finally have the time and space to tackle those maintenance jobs you've been putting off.
For Buyers: Same idea. Your schedule may be a little easier now, giving you time to actually get out and look at homes and cottages. And who knows? You might even discover a great little café along the way.
3. Motivation
For Sellers: The dog days of summer are over, and the reality of another winter is starting to sink in. Maybe you've been thinking about selling for a while. Maybe you were already on the market but taking a bit of a "wait and see" approach.
Now is a good time to ask yourself: Do I really want to spend another winter here? And if the answer is no, what will it take to get your property sold?
For Buyers: It's the other side of the same coin.
Maybe you spent the summer exploring different areas and looking at what was available. If you found a location—and perhaps a property—that you really like, now might be the time to make a move.
If it's a cottage, the Seller may not want to carry it through another winter. If it's a house, fewer people want to move in the middle of winter. Either way, that may create an opportunity.
